“Tempura
making takes years to master. Experienced chefs watch carefully and listen to the sound of the cooking. When our guests see the attention to detail our chefs put into their work and taste the results of this dedication on their plate, it will be easy for them to appreciate how Tenmasa acquired its reputation.” {Source} |
We had fish, shrimp (ebi) and vegetable tempura. And yes, even if the prices were really expensive, it was worth it because I’ve never had tempura that good ever or since. It was all about the lightness and the right mixture of the tempura batter and the appropriate temperature of the oil that made it so different. This was one of my most memorable dining experiences because I really got to appreciate the fine art of cooking and dining up close, as well as this definitive Japanese art.I’ve been to Japan on a culture visit in my high school days and since then, I’ve come to appreciate how the Japanese always put on a finer spin to everyday aspects of life, like cooking. And I guess because tempura is so accessible in any Japanese restaurant here in the Philippines (or anywhere in the world for that matter) that it has achieved the status of Japanese fast food, so it’s not so hard to see the difference when one experiences the superior taste of “fine dining tempura” as in Tenmasa.
The ambiance and reputation of Tenmasa may be a bit intimidating so we were happy that we were enthusiastically assisted by a Filipina server, who recommended other dishes to us, such as ramen, sushi, and sashimi. If you find yourself in Macau and want to experience tempura as you’ve never experienced it before and you call yourself a lover of Japanese food, then Tenmasa must be on your list. Cheers! 🙂

One thing I really regret was not being able to fully research on the great eats of Macau when Hubby and I went there during our honeymoon. Sayang talaga as we were a little dismayed with what we ate. Good thing you posted this. We’re planning another HK-Macau trip soon so hoepfully we’ll be eating so much better. hehehe! =)
