To get there, we had to get down from the low cliff to the rocks below. Thankfully, there were concrete stairs, although it was still steep.
And just the thought of slipping on these rocks gave our little sidetrip some dash of adventure.
After reaching the base of the cave, we had to climb up the cave to reach the middle of the doughnut.
As expected, the winds and the waves were really strong. This cave was formed by the lashing of the winds and the waves, of centuries’ worth of the constant pounding and pressure of the water and the winds. And isn’t that such a beautiful thing? I can’t help thinking that it’s the same way with people—that we become who we are, damaged but beautiful and full of character, with everything that has been thrown at us with the passage of time.
My Pride and Prejudice moment 🙂
We then said goodbye to Pagudpud and off we rode the bus for the 4 hour trip to Vigan, in the province of Ilocos Sur, the land of tobacco and nostalgia.
